Our New Cat 1

Blaxland's new Cat 1 is back with us at Blaxland.

It seems that there has been a change in direction with this and it is now sitting outside the back of the Station between activities, waiting for the new front door to the Station which will allow us to put it to bed at night.

The door was to have been installed immediately after Christmas (2002) before the New Year.
That didn't happen.
The plan is now for it to be installed during January.
Since the date is now 8th February I don't think that will happen either.

We may have the door installed by the end of February

Despite its lack of a bed, the new Cat 1 has not been idle.
It has been down to Canberra for a couple of weeks climbing around the escarpment south-west of Canberra in the Williamsdale / Michelago area but on the other side of the Monaro Highway.

After returning from that, it was despatched to the Katoomba area to assist there.
(and this does not include a handful of local errands in which it has been involved.)

....And Our New Doors

The new doors for the centre bay of the Brigade Station have now been installed and the new Cat 1 at last can come in out of the rain.

The doors, actually door, singular, is a sectional roll-up unit with windows in the horizontal centre panels. It increases the amount of light in the Tanker Bay significantly and for those of us used to seeing a completely dark area there when closing up it is strange to glance in and see lots of light. I have double-checked the light switch on several occasions on the way out because of this.

The door is operated by an electric drive which is assisted by coil springs acting like torsion bars to take the weight of the door. It is smooth and quiet in action and luckily is high enough to take the new tanker. (I know it was designed for this but the space shuttles are designed for re-entry to the earth's atmosphere.....)

Now we will see how it works in live situations.

Drivers - don't forget - you can only get the tanker into the bay from the front. Don't get absent-minded and try and drive through from the back - it won't fit yet.
