STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

Title: AS-01 MEMBERSHIP

 

Rationale:

Clause 6 of the Rural Fires Regulations requires the Brigade to define the procedure for attaining membership and list the requirements for attaining membership.

Standard:

The procedure for attaining membership of Blaxland Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade:

* Applicant completes appropriate BMRFS "Application to Join" Senior Member (17 years of age or over) or "Application to Join" Junior Member (14 to 16 years of age).

* The Station Officer will explain the eligibility for membership and induction process; and issue a membership pack.

* Captain reviews application for eligibility and ensures that parent/guardian has signed where appropriate; makes recommendation for membership

· Applicant's name to be published in the Brigade’s monthly FLAME newsletter

· Approval of application will be sought at the next monthly Brigade meeting

· Upon approval applicant becomes "Probationary" member and will serve a six (6) month period of probation, unless otherwise determined by the responsible authority

* Membership fee is paid to the Treasurer at the monthly meeting at which the member is accepted by the Brigade.

· Secretary forwards "Application to Join" to BMRFS

* The Captain issues new member with Brigade Member Card.

* Secretary registers application in the Brigade Membership Register

The requirements for eligibility for membership of Blaxland Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade are:

* Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the Blaxland Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade

* A commitment to the NSW Rural Fire Service

* Physical and medical fitness will determine classification of membership

This SOP determines procedures and eligibility to become a member of Blaxland Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and should be read in conjunction with
the Brigade’s Constitution,
Blue Mountains RFS SOP AM- 01
and RFS Service Standards 2.1.3.
