STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

Title: PE-01 ISSUE OF PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

 

Rationale:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are provided to active members for reasons of safety, standardisation and uniformity. PPE must be worn at all operational activities.

Standard:

The member must:

* have completed and passed BF modules 1 - 8

* be classified as an active member

* be at least seventeen (17) years of age

PPE whilst issued to brigade members remain the property of BMRFS.

Items of protective clothing are provided to active members by BMRFS include trousers and jacket, helmet, gloves, boots and goggles.

These items are issued on a regular basis however, a further issue may be made if the clothing is damaged or loss through a brigade activity. Application for reissue is to be made to the Captain on the appropriate form.

All other clothing is the responsibility of the member. A T shirt must be worn with two (2) piece outfit. NO synthetics are to be worn at all.

Members must also have at least one (1) water bottle.

It is advisable for each member to carry a 1st Aid Kit, matches, pocket knife, notebook, pencil and whistle.

Cold climate coats are available to active members and are located within the Brigade station.

Standard Operating Procedure

SOP should be read in conjunction with BMRFS SOP EP-01 and RFS SOP 3.1.6 # 41. Standard of insignias for all PPE is set out in BMRFS SOP EP-01-4.
