State Records of NSW

Web site: www.records.nsw.gov.au

The State Records of NSW holds most of the early archive material for Australia, including information about all of the colonies until they separated from NSW. Much of the material of interest to the genealogist is available on microfilm, and distributed to many locations in Australia. State records also has a number of searchable databases online to assist in locating arriving passengers, as well as some convict related resources.

The web site has details of all of its holdings, including a complete description of the information that has been made available on microfilm.

Where State records microfilms are held

Copies of the NSW State Records microfilms are available in every Australian state, New Zealand and Germany. State Records lists where they are available, click here. State Records also has made them available at Community Access Points in NSW and these are also listed at State Records. Note that locations in NSW are present in both lists. It is also worth checking with your nearest Family History Centre and the Church of Latter Day Saints' Family History Centres. They may have copies as well.
